8 life lessons surfing has taught me

I don't go on cruise because I have a phobia of the ocean ever since I watched Titanic as a child. I hated the idea of drowning or being stranded in nowhere, in case of an emergency. It's a miracle to how I fell in love with surfing. Perhaps, largely driven by the parallel of surfing and life values that I hold dearly.

8 life lessons surfing has taught me:

  1. You cannot stop the waves, but you can learn to surf. Life is full of obstacles. Obstacles won't go away, but you can ride on them to open up endless possibilities.

  2. To keep your balance, you must keep moving. Life is easy when you feel comfortable and contented, but as inflation rises, can our pay keep up?

  3. You'll fall more than you ride the waves - but each time, we'll turn around and paddle back in. Life is a series of setbacks that test our resilience. You just have to keep going if you want to reach your goals.

  4. Surfing all about where your mind is at. The ultimate focus is what that helps you achieve your goals.

  5. Surfing is fearfully exhilarating. Big waves are measured by fear, not meters. There is no denying that major obstacles can be overwhelming, but overcoming them is invigorating.

  6. Not ever waves are for you. You will always have people who dislike or like you - you just can't please everyone.

  7. Surfing is all about that little push to keep you ridding. Science has proven that energy is transferrable, but I have found that energy is influential. Your success depends on the intensity of energy.

  8. It's impossible to predict what kind of wave you'll get, especially if the wind plays a role. Staying fluid and adaptive is key to success.
